清宮藏書之中，收貯宋、元、明善本及稀見秘籍的寶藏，當以「天祿琳琅」最富盛名。目前正於103陳列室展出的「古籍與密檔」特展，特別設置了「天祿琳琅」單元，展出不少當年的珍貴善本，這件「歷代臣鑑」便是展件之一。
