Flower vessels include mainly planters (“potted scenery”) and flower arrangements. In China, they were traditionally made from a wide range of materials, such as bronze, ceramic, jade, stone, glass, lacquer, wood and bamboo. They also come in diverse forms, including vases, planters, bowls, dishes, tubs, baskets and hanging vases. This exhibition features mostly porcelain objects from the Ming and Qing dynasties in the National Palace Museum collection and is divided into two sections, “Planters” and “Flower Arrangement Vases.” Together, they present an overview of the development of flower vessels through the Ming and Qing dynasties.
