此為十二月月令圖(軸)九月景。描繪一處水澤園林，前景庭閣內眾人聚集賞菊，小院裡不同瓷器盛裝的菊花盆景，更具爭妍姿態。屋舍內的講究裝潢也隱約可見。中景見一竹籬後院，各色叢菊盛開，仕女與孩童遊賞其間，藉一小橋連接對岸的竹樓。就在竹樓後側的青綠山頭，幾位士人登高後游賞閒坐平台之上。賞菊、登高都是九月九日重陽習俗。畫中建築具遠近法，仍能與青綠遠山融彙為精緻清院畫風。
