目前代班的〈金甌永固杯及玉燭長調燭台〉是清宮過年的儀式中相當重要的一件文物。　清宮過年，皇帝的第一件事，是元旦開筆儀式。此時桌案上必放置著一組特殊的金甌和玉燭台。點亮蠟燭，金甌碗裡滿注屠蘇酒，皇帝拿起「萬年青」筆，以硃色和墨色書寫吉語，並翻閱曆書省達天命。
　　The first thing that the Qing dynasty emperors did at court for the New Year… 更多 was to
hold the “First Stroke of New Year’s Day” ceremony. A special gold chalice and jade
candlestick were placed on a table for this occasion. Lighting the candlestick and filling
the chalice with “New Year’s” wine, the emperor would pick up the brush “Verdant for Ten Thousand Years” to compose auspicious phrases in red and black ink while also
presenting an almanac to symbolize the Mandate of Heaven to review matters for the
year.
