Wang Shouren (style name Bo’an), a native of Yuyao, Zhejiang,… 更多 was a Presented Scholar of 1499 and posthumously named Wencheng. A renowned philosopher, he is better known as “Mr. Yangming.” In terms of calligraphy, he followed the Two Wangs, so his running script was praised by others. His works also reveal the influence of Zhao Mengfu. This work throughout is regulated with running and cursive script arranged in alternating form, the characters upstanding and powerful. The application and lifting of the brush reveals a sharp tip, while the character forms are often elongated in exaggeration, Wang using large areas of void in the bottom part to break up the tense atmosphere for a lively manner of his own.
