The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional Chinese festival, the custom of eating zongzi and watching boat races in the shape of dragons (huá lóngzhōu/划龍舟) is to commemorate the patriotic poet (shīrén/詩人) Qu Yuan (Qūyuán/屈原) who drowned himself in 277 B.C. in protest of the government, so the Dragon Boat Festival is also called the Poet’s Day (shīrénjié/詩人節).
