"Hey BugMan, is that beetle made of GOLD??" No, but it sure does look like it. The Rutelid's (genus Chrysina) or Jewel Scarabs are typically metallic iridescent beetles that can be found from the SW United… 更多 States, southward throughout Central America (Ecuador, Costa Rica and Honduras). Once known as Plusiotis Beetles, they're typically 1"-2.5" in length, are nocturnal and are strict vegetarians. Collectors use lights to find these cool, often valuable beetles and the larvae live in rotting logs and stumps (forests usually at moderate elevations). As many as 15 species can be found in Honduras, while only 4 species typically occur in the United States. <br> Most Chrysina's are green, but silver and metallic gold are also common variations. It's difficult to produce a pic of these beetles that will do them justice. Awesomely cool bugs and some of my favorite's.
