畫作賞析：
水岸邊竹棘攀附著雜木，赭黃蘆葦花葉晃動，已是深秋時節。畫中小牛在後呼喚，母牛轉身等待，足見母子情深。畫家巧妙捕捉動物神態，繪牛身以墨染，牛毛以細勁筆法，絲出牛毛硬挺尖細質感，具南宋典型風格。畫上鈐有「司印」半印，曾經明內府及項元汴舊藏。
