早期在新石器時代的良渚文化中，便有「玉帶鉤」的零星發現，而「銅帶鉤」則約始於西周晚期而盛於春秋戰國，且帶鉤的質材多樣、鑲嵌多方，在貴族的衣帶上，呈現出細緻精彩的景觀。《淮南子•說林訓》中更提到：「滿堂之坐，視鉤各異」，敘述的便是貴族男子革帶外露、競以腰肚上的帶鉤比美炫耀的盛況。
像是這件【金銀錯銅帶鉤】，器身以錯金銀飾一曲身龍紋，極為精緻。
Belt hooks appeared in the Spring and Autumn period and turned very popular during the Warring State period. They are of diverse materials and with all kinds of inlay from gold, silver to bronze and turquoise. A small ornamental addition greatly enhanced the look of belts and ribbons on an aristocrat.
