Ciou Chuei-Chang, an intellectual who became a famous rice grower the legend of the president of rice. Mr. Ciou was born in Chishang, along with a firm and persistent Hakka spirit. He left his beloved career as a designer in 1997 and went back home to take care of his parents. At the same time, he sought to return what the land had been given him. He started to cultivate the 3.2 hectare farmland owned by his family, hoping to improve both soil fertility and ecological balance. As a result, in 2004, he had bred the champion rice of the First National Rice Quality Contest.
