一九一九年日治其間修築潮州線鐵路所設的竹田車站，鄰近的萬巒、內埔亦以此為轉運中心。逐漸地，鐵路營運下降，鐵路局至一九九一年將竹田站降為簡易站，並決定拆除原木造站房，全鄉輿情譁然，全力向鐵路局爭取保存，站房原貌得以保存並賦予新的文化生命。
In 1919, Jhutian Train Station was built. The station was a transport center for the town and the nearby Wanluan and Neipu. In year 1991, the Bureau decided to close down Jhutian train station and demolish some of the station buildings due to high expenses and low passage rate. Because of this, the people had united to protect the station buildings as a property of cultural asset
