    張廷彥(活動於十八世紀中期),出身於揚州繪畫世家,乾隆九年(1744)入宮。〈登瀛州圖〉原本的描繪屬題,應以描繪輔佐唐太宗有功的「秦府十八學士」為重心,但此作的人物卻成為配角。令人印象深刻的,反而是畫中遼闊的空間場景。張廷彥將地平線置立軸極上端,運用「Z」字形佈置連綿小徑、橋面、屋舍廳廊與樹列,並依循遠近距離來安排景物大小,創造出一派浩渺景致。這種對開闊明晰空間感的追求與實踐,實為乾隆朝宮廷繪畫的典型特色。

    Zhang Tingyan was born into a painter’s family in Yangzhou and… 更多 entered the Qing court in 1744. The subject of this work probably focuses on the merits of the “Eighteen Scholars of the Qin Residence” who assisted the Tang dynasty emperor Taizong with his administration, but here the figures actually play a secondary role. More impressive in this painting, however, is the rendering of vast space. Zhang Tingyan placed the horizon at the top of the scroll and used path, bridge, corridor, and tree motifs to create a “Z”-shaped pattern, arranging their size according to proportion near and far to create an expansive scene. The pursuit and portrayal of a vast and clear sense of space is a typical feature of court paintings at the Qianlong court.
