民國51年3月26日，戰地記者劉毅夫伉儷於金門毋忘在莒勒石前留影。民國40年12月29日，蔣中正總統巡視金門期間，應地方人士之請，於次年1月題頒「毋忘在莒」四字於太武山巔，旨在提醒前線軍民，毋忘在大陸失敗之恥，效法戰國時代齊國田單復國精神，訓勉國人光復大陸河山。
