春節是華人一年中最重要的節日，春節氣氛以農曆正月初一到初五這段期間最為濃厚，民間俗稱「過年」，含有辭舊迎新之意。農曆12月最後1日除夕夜闔家會一起「圍爐」吃年夜飯，在吃完年夜飯後，長輩會發給晚輩紅包袋(即壓歲錢)，有互討吉利、祈求平安的意思。直至午夜12點一到，家家戶戶紛紛燃放鞭炮歡慶新年到來，含有對過去一年的感懷及對未來一年新的期望。

Lunar year is… 更多 the most important holiday in Chinese society. The first five days of the first month of the lunar year have the rich atmosphere of the new year, and is commonly known as “new year”, when you leave the old year behind and welcome the new. The last day of the old lunar year the family gets together for dinner “around the stove”. After dinner, red envelopes stuffed with lucky money will be handed to the younger generation for mutual good fortune, and everyone will pray for a peaceful new year.
